random musings on government...
With the wide variety of domestic issues, and the seemingly monthly shitstorm of foreign policy problems...do you think having one person as President is still feasible? Can one man deal with all these problems at once? I mean when does he get to sit around having martinis like FDR?

Sometimes I think we should invest the Secretaries of the Interior and State with more power so that they can work semi-independently of the President so that things done, the President makes sure that they don't try to kill each other. Sorta like how the Roman republic used to have two Consuls.

Back to Secretary of State, I think we need to remove some of the power of the Defense Dept. and place it back in State. I remember that being one of the strangest things I read in the "911 Report" was how since WW2 and especially since Vietnam the Defense Dept. has taken over many of the duties of the State dept (especially in the areas of intelligence and nation building).

Eh, none of these ideas are that good. In any case we would have a blood bath with the most hardcore individual coming out on top as a quasi-dictator. Of course a little dictatorship isn't a bad thing sometimes....

It has to be one guy so as to avoid division when it comes time to make the "gotta make em NOW" decisions. Also withmore than one president there's always the risk they'd spend too much time(read any time at all) trying to be more popular than the other guy.

It's a crap job being president but somebody has to do it.
